Day 3 - Family, Friends, Food, Fun, and Finally...

Day 3 - Chardon OH to Utica, NY
372 miles

Somehow I've managed to go my entire life without seeing Niagara Falls in person. I've driven passed the Falls, flown over them, but never actually stopped to visit them. So we designed our trip to make sure that bucket list item was firmly checked off.

Instead of taking the easy route, we headed north over the Peace Bridge

and joined several thousand of our closest friends trying to get into Canada.

We knew the wait and the traffic were worth it, when we first saw Niagara Falls from the Canadian side.

We took the time to tour all angles of the falls,

and wait for an opportunity to actually walk down a tunnel that ends behind one of major arms of the falls

and then beside the thunderingly powerful water that has generated electricity for millions of people in Canada for almost a century.

And again, as we inevitably do on each of our trip, we commented on what had to have gone through the minds of the first people to see such an incredible sight.

We ended our day in Utica, NY and enjoyed a great meal at Delmonico's Italian Steakhouse (two thumbs up) and struck up a conversation with the drivers of these cars parked in back of our motel.

Joe, one of the drivers, explained that they were creating interactive online maps for Google. They spent each day driving every street and road within a grid to record all the turns, twists and straight and narrows of the road.

He thought they'd be done with the entire nation-wide project in about five years.

We should have Europe conquered by then :-)
