Appalachian Adventure Day 3 1/2: to Harper's Ferry

As wonderful as our morning in D.C. was, getting out of town was torture. We finally made it though and headed out to the country to find some state signs.

First we found Virginia

 And West Virginia
Then Maryland.

We made it to Harper's Ferry in the early evening and met up with part of our Sturgis family - Cathy and Jimmy from New Jersey.

We hadn't seen them for a couple years, but we picked up right where we left off and spent the rest of the evening catching up and checking out the town.

I was in Harper's Ferry when I was 13, and fell in love with the town. When we were planning this trip I knew we had to stay here.

Home for us for a couple days was the Jackson Rose Bed and Breakfast. This was Stonewall Jackson's headquarters during the civil war. We even stayed in the Jackson room, which was his bedroom at the time.

A special thanks to our hosts, Deb and Phil for their hospitality. They have a beautiful B&B, wonderful homemade food and a great dog named Roy. Be sure to stay there if you are ever in the area!!

We were happy to call it an early night, and be up bright and early, for our day in Gettysburg.

Fun facts:

Low gas price so far: $3.15 in West Virginia
High gas price so far: $3.69 in Virginia
Hot. Hot. Hot. Oh - and sunny, too.
Miles day .5: 303
Miles day 1: 566
Miles day 2: 518
Miles day 3: 164
