Westward Ho! Day 3

The Dalles

No matter how long the previous day was, waking up, looking out the window and seeing mountains and an open road made us excited and ready to start a new day.

Today we were headed to The Dalles, OR. We started through the Lolo Pass
and Lolo National Forest along the Lewis and Clark Trail (also called Highway 12). We wondered aloud how these first explorers and their guides made it through the mountains with all their crew, wagons and equipment.
Much of the road followed the Lochsa River which was an incredible sight.
And provided a scenic and peaceful day of riding.
We made it to Washington in the early afternoon.
Then along the Oregon Trail Highway, past famous Washington vineyards and into Oregon a few hours later.
And to our destination a couple hours after that.
The Dalles is an interesting older town that’s working to make a comeback. They have great restaurants and brew pubs. We even got adventurous and drank a couple local Jalapeno Ales with our dinner.
Exhausted once again, we ended the night fairly early, knowing the road would be calling us once again at the crack of dawn.

Day 1 - 603 miles
Day 2 - 768 miles
Day 3 - 510 miles
